This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” is inspired by Monica L. Miller’s acclaimed book Slaves to Fashion. The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition will spotlight the history and artistry of Black dandyism—curated through 12 thematic sections such as Ownership, Disguise, Cool, Beauty, and Cosmopolitanism. Expect garments, photographs, and artwork from icons like Torkwase Dyson and Tyler Mitchell, capturing the depth and breadth of Black diasporic fashion.
Who’s Hosting?
The 2025 Met Gala will be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and of course, Anna Wintour. LeBron James will serve as an honorary chair. This year’s host committee brings together cultural powerhouses including André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Janelle Monáe, Usher, Spike Lee, and more.
What’s the Dress Code?
The dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a custom-inspired nod to the exhibit’s emphasis on menswear, tailoring, and personal style. It’s expected to push boundaries and redefine suiting across the red carpet.
What Happens Inside?
While the event maintains a strict no-phone, no-social-media policy, guests will enjoy cocktails, a curated dinner by chef Kwame Onwuachi, and a private viewing of the new exhibit. A surprise musical performance is also customary.
