December 28, 2024: Filmmaker Vasan Bala, who directed Alia Bhatt in ‘Jigra’, recently opened up about his experience working with the acclaimed actor, calling her a dream collaborator for any director.

“Every director I love should get an opportunity to work with Alia Bhatt. They will be spoilt, and then unki agli film mein band bajegi (they’ll struggle in their next film). She has no entourage, nothing, and she is always ready. Sometimes, I didn’t even have to communicate how I wanted a scene; a simple gesture was enough for her to understand,” Vasan said.

A Lighter Day on Set:
While ‘Jigra’ had a grim narrative, Vasan shared a rare lighter moment from the set. He recalled a day when he and Alia indulged in casual conversations and laughter, breaking away from the serious atmosphere that often surrounded the project.
“Usually, sets are funny, but this film lacked humour. One day, we just let loose and laughed together—it was a refreshing break,” Vasan added.
About ‘Jigra’:
Directed by Vasan Bala, ‘Jigra’ stars Alia Bhatt alongside Vedang Raina, Manoj Pahwa, Rahul Ravindran, and Vivek Gomber. The film tells the gripping story of a woman fighting against all odds to rescue her brother, who is on death row in a foreign country for a crime he didn’t commit.
Box Office Performance:
Despite positive reviews for Alia Bhatt’s performance and Vasan Bala’s direction, ‘Jigra’ struggled commercially. Made on a ₹80 crore budget, the film earned only ₹55 crore worldwide, falling short of expectations.
Alia Bhatt: A Director’s Dream:
Alia’s ability to understand and deliver a director’s vision with minimal direction has earned her immense respect in the industry. While ‘Jigra’ may not have met commercial expectations, it stands as a testament to Alia’s dedication to her craft and Vasan Bala’s unique storytelling style.
