Vicky Kaushal, Akshaye Khanna, Refuse to Talk, Look at One Another

The actors portraying Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Aurangzeb avoided personal interaction to maintain the intensity of their characters.

February 4, 2025: Actor Vicky Kaushal and Akshaye Khanna, who portray Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Mughal Shahenshah Aurangzeb in Laxman Utekar’s Chhaava, took an unconventional approach to bring authenticity to their on-screen rivalry. The actors reportedly refrained from interacting with each other off-camera during the filming to stay immersed in their characters’ animosity.

Praising Akshaye Khanna’s portrayal of Aurangzeb, director Laxman Utekar shared, “Akshaye’s performance will leave you frightened. He conveys so much through his eyes without speaking much. His approach to the character of Aurangzeb adds a slimy and cunning dimension, blending beautifully with the roaring presence of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.”

Interestingly, the two actors met for the first time as their respective characters on the day of filming their intense confrontation scene. Recalling the experience, Vicky said, “We exchanged no greetings or goodbyes. He was Aurangzeb, and I was Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. There was no Vicky Kaushal or Akshaye Khanna on that set—just the characters.”

Laxman Utekar revealed that both actors were so dedicated to their roles that they actively avoided seeing each other. “They didn’t even want to interact off-camera because of the nature of their roles. This helped elevate the tension and realism in their scenes together,” the director explained.

Vicky added, “Considering the intensity of our scenes, it wasn’t possible to casually chat and then jump into character. We stayed true to the spirit of the story.”

With Chhaava set to release on February 14, fans are eagerly anticipating the gripping face-off between two powerful performers. The film promises to be an epic portrayal of the struggle between Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Aurangzeb, highlighting their contrasting ideologies and relentless quests.
