‘House Of The Dragon’ Actor Matt Smith Talks About Challenges He Faced During The Shoot

October 23, 2024: Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon, shared some insights into the challenges he faced while working on the show during a panel at New York Comic Con alongside his co-stars Tom Glynn-Carney and Fabien Frankel.

One of the toughest aspects for Smith was dealing with the wigs required for his character. He humorously noted, “The wigs are hard,” and Glynn-Carney, who plays Aegon, agreed, mentioning that “wigs, the bald caps, and the pins” were particularly uncomfortable.

Smith also mentioned that while working on the set of his new film ‘Caught Stealing’, he picked up some tips from the makeup team on how to manage wigs better. He hinted at a potential solution to avoid the struggle, but ultimately, he’s found relief by shaving his head for his role in that film. He said, “I can’t go through it again… it killed me,” referring to the difficulty of constantly wearing a wig for his long-haired character.

When the panel turned to discussions about House of the Dragon‘s future, Smith shared that he has no details about the show’s third season, following the season 2 finale that aired on August 4. Despite these “champagne problems” as Smith called them, the cast seemed to bond over the physical discomforts of their elaborate costumes and wigs.

Seasons 1 and 2 of House of the Dragon are currently streaming on Max, and while fans eagerly await season 3, the cast remains in the dark about what lies ahead for their characters.
