Day 1 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur was called off early due to persistent rain, with only 35 overs of play possible on Friday.
Bangladesh, after being sent in to bat, managed to post 107/3 at stumps, with Mominul Haque unbeaten on 40 and Mushfiqur Rahim on 6.
Earlier in the day, India won the toss and opted to bowl, taking advantage of the overcast conditions. Despite a delayed start due to a wet outfield, Bangladesh’s openers, Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam, held steady for a while. However, India broke through with Akash Deep removing both openers.
Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed a solid 31 before falling to Ravichandran Ashwin.
With Akash Deep taking 2/34 and Ashwin adding a key wicket, India’s bowlers kept the pressure on before rain interrupted and eventually ended play for the day.
