The Indian contingent is set to commence its journey at the Paris Olympics from July 25, with 112 athletes competing in 69 medal events across 16 sports. Leading the charge is a 29-member athletics team headed by Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra. India is also sending its largest-ever shooting team to the Olympics, comprising 21 athletes.
The archery team, featuring stars like Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai, will be the first to compete, starting with individual ranking rounds on July 25, a day before the opening ceremony. India’s first medal opportunity will be in the mixed team air rifle event on July 27, with pairs Sandeep Singh/Elavenil Valarivan and Arjun Babuta/Ramita Jindal vying for the podium.
Manu Bhaker will compete in two individual pistol events and the 10m air pistol mixed team event, while Neeraj Chopra will defend his javelin title in August, with qualifiers on July 6 and the final on July 8. Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will aim for a third medal in badminton from July 27 to August 5.
Tokyo 2020 silver medalist weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will compete in the women’s 49kg category on August 7. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain, a Tokyo bronze medalist, will participate in boxing events from July 27 to August 10, joined by two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen, making her Olympic debut.
India will compete in archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and tennis at Paris 2024. The Olympics will conclude on August 11, with India aiming to surpass its tally of seven medals from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which included one gold, two silvers, and four bronzes.
