The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was abandoned due to rain on Thursday. This washout confirmed SunRisers Hyderabad’s place in the playoffs.
With the match called off, Pat Cummins-led SRH secured their spot in the playoffs, being third on the points table with 15 points from 13 matches and a net run rate of 0.406. This marks the first time SRH has reached the playoffs since their victorious campaign in 2016.
In contrast, Gujarat Titans, sitting in eighth place with 10 points from 14 games, joined Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings as the third team eliminated from the tournament. Despite their early exit this season, GT had an impressive run in the previous two seasons, winning the championship in 2022 and finishing as finalists in 2023.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lead the points table, achieving the top position for the first time in their history, thanks to their consistent performance throughout the tournament.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) currently hold the fifth spot with 12 points from 13 matches. They face a crucial match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are third with 14 points from 13 matches. To remain in playoff contention, RCB, with a net run rate of 0.387, must secure a win that would help them surpass CSK’s NRR of 0.528.
