In an electrifying Indian Premier League (IPL) match, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma delivered a stunning performance against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), securing a ten-wicket victory with a blistering chase that concluded in just 9.4 overs at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma launched an all-out assault from the start, rapidly propelling SRH towards the 166-run target. Early in the innings, Sharma unleashed a barrage of boundaries against Yash Thakur, taking 17 runs off a single over. Not to be outdone, Head dominated the next over from Krishnappa Gowtham, hammering three sixes and a four to snatch 22 runs. The onslaught continued with Head striking massive blows over long-on and long-off, quickly bringing up his half-century in just 16 balls, eventually scoring 89* off 30 balls.
Abhishek Sharma complemented Head’s explosive batting with a brilliant half-century of his own, scoring 75* off 28 balls, as the duo amassed 107 runs by the end of the powerplay. This marked one of the fastest chases in IPL history, with SRH notching 167/0 in under 10 overs.
Earlier, LSG had set a target of 166, led by Ayush Badoni’s half-century and Nicholas Pooran’s strong finish, which helped them reach a modest total of 165/4. Despite their efforts, LSG’s bowlers struggled to contain SRH’s aggressive batting.
Reflecting on the match, SRH skipper praised his openers for their match-winning partnership. “The openers were outstanding today. They took the game away from the opposition very early and maintained the pressure throughout, making it an easy chase for us,” he noted.
This victory positions SRH as a strong contender for the playoffs, now sitting third in the league standings, while LSG contemplates adjustments after a tough loss.
