November 26, 2024: Deepak Chahar, who was bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs 9.25 crore at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, has expressed his excitement about joining the franchise and working alongside some of the biggest names in cricket.
The fast bowler, who made a high-profile move from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to MI, shared his enthusiasm in a welcome video posted on the team’s official X handle.
In the video, Chahar praised the Mumbai Indians management, saying, “I am very excited. I have heard good things. Rahul [Chahar] was there, and he used to praise the management. Everybody sits and talks. This is the franchise where management is praised a lot. One is CSK and the other is MI, so I am happy that I am moving from one family to another.”
The Mumbai Indians also welcomed him warmly, with a message on X: “FaMIly mein aapka swagat hai, Deepak bhai” (Welcome to the family, Deepak brother).
Chahar, who has played 81 IPL matches and taken 77 wickets, had a standout career with CSK after joining them in 2018. His best season came in 2019 when he claimed 22 wickets in 17 matches. He began his IPL career with Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 before moving to CSK, where he became an integral part of their bowling attack.
His addition to the Mumbai Indians squad now bolsters MI’s already impressive pace attack, which features Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. The team’s management will be hoping that Chahar’s ability to swing the ball and provide early breakthroughs will add depth to their bowling line-up.
The MI squad for IPL 2025 includes some of the best players in world cricket, including Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Trent Boult, along with new acquisitions like Chahar. With his experience and proven track record, Chahar’s presence is expected to add considerable firepower to MI’s attack as they aim for another successful season.
