November 27, 2024: Faf du Plessis’ recent move to Delhi Capitals (DC) for IPL 2025 has certainly caught the attention of cricket fans. The South African veteran, who has a stellar T20 career, was acquired by DC for his base price of Rs 2 crore at the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
In a video shared by the franchise, Faf expressed his excitement and honor at joining the team, stating that he is “super proud” to once again be part of the IPL and looks forward to contributing to the team’s success.
At 40 years old, Faf is still one of the most respected players in the T20 format. His experience will be invaluable to a Delhi side that has shown promise but has struggled to go all the way in recent seasons. Over his IPL career, Faf has been a consistent performer, scoring 1,636 runs in 45 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at an average of 38.04, with 15 half-centuries and a strike rate of nearly 147. He has also been part of title-winning squads with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), bringing leadership and calmness to the middle order.
Delhi Capitals will be hoping that Faf’s extensive experience will help guide them to their first-ever IPL title. With a strong lineup already in place, including players like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel, Faf’s addition strengthens their batting order and leadership core.
Despite their strong performances in recent years, Delhi narrowly missed out on the playoffs in the 2024 season, finishing with 14 points but missing out due to net run rate.
