Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]: A two-day National Workshop on “Capacity Building for Managers in Higher Education” began in Srinagar on Friday.
Department of Higher Education, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with the Government College of Education (IASE) Srinagar hosted the workshop.
The event was addressed by dignitaries who emphasized the significance of empowering women in leadership roles within the educational sector.
Among the notable personalities present were Darakshan Andrabi, Chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board (Ministry of State), who highlighted the strides taken towards women’s welfare and development under the governance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the region.
“In the governance of the Bharatiya Janata Party, every step has been taken for the welfare and development of women in our country, especially in Jammu and Kashmir,” Andrabi said.
The workshop also saw the presence of distinguished guests including Professor Emeritus Pam Rajput, Former Director of Women’s Studies Centre at Punjab University, and Professor Neelofar Khan, Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University.
Other luminaries such as Professor Yasmeen Ashai, Director, College’s Department of Higher Education, and Parveen Pandit, Consultant at Central University of Kashmir, participated in the event.
The workshop primarily catered to Principals from various colleges in the Kashmir Division. Over the course of the two days, a diverse panel of speakers will delve into vital aspects of capacity building for women managers in higher education.
The discussions centered around objectives such as promoting gender equality and assessing progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG-5).
Addressing the gathering, Pam Rajput stated, “Capacity building for women in managerial roles is not only essential for their individual growth but also for the holistic development of the education sector.”
The workshop aims to address issues related to managerial skills and women’s governance, fostering an environment where women can flourish and contribute effectively to higher education management.
The event provided a platform for fruitful discussions and insights into creating a more inclusive and empowered educational landscape. With a focus on capacity building and gender equality, the National Workshop on “Capacity Building for Managers in Higher Education” sets the stage for progress and positive change in the realm of education.
