PM Modi Leads Yoga Day in Srinagar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the national celebrations from the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. In his address, he highlighted the global recognition and growing relevance of yoga, noting its significant impact on young minds and bodies.
Modi remarked, “Today, from the land of Kashmir, I congratulate everyone around the world on International Yoga Day!”

This year’s theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” underscores yoga’s essential role in promoting individual well-being and societal harmony. The International Day of Yoga aims to unite thousands in the practice of yoga, advocating health and wellness on a global scale.
Historical Celebrations and Special Events
Since the inception of the International Day of Yoga in 2015, Prime Minister Modi has led the celebrations at various iconic locations, including Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru, and even the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This year’s celebrations are particularly expansive, featuring a unique event titled “Yoga for Space.” All ISRO centers and units will participate in programs practicing the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP). Additionally, Indian Embassies and Missions abroad will join in, reflecting the widespread influence and importance of yoga.
