Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on Tuesday after two years of marriage, on the same day as their 2nd year anniversary; August-20. Lopez filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The news was first reported by TMZ and it also stated that Lopez filed pro per that means she filed the papers without a lawyer and is basically self represented. The singer listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024.
Lopez omitted reference to a pre-nuptial agreement, but it is widely believed that they did not have one. This in essence means that any money that Ben and Jen made during their nearly two years of marriage is common property.
Further, she went on to waive spousal support and asked the judge to deny Affleck such support as well.
Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, first sparked breakup rumours in May 2024, barely months after their marriage amid reports that they were taking couples therapy.
Soon after, Lopez was seen without her wedding ring confirming trouble in paradise, though, they never addressed the rumours.
TMZ also reported that Affleck had moved out of their Beverly Hills mega-mansion soon after.
Attentive fans and netizens repeatedly pointed out that the pair hadn’t been photographed together in months.
Lopez and Affleck famously rekindled their romance in 2021, more than 17 years after they initially were engaged and postponed a planned September 2023 wedding. Later they eloped and the pair held a surprise wedding in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022. They later held a lavish Georgia wedding ceremony on August 20.
The pair officially broke-up for the first time in January 2004 and remained friendly in the decade-plus between.
This was the second wedding for the Oscar-winning actor and director Affleck, 52, while the pop singer-turned-actress Lopez, 55, was married for the fourth time.
