October 18, 2024: Josh Brolin is reportedly in talks to star alongside Glen Powell in Edgar Wright’s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Running Man. Brolin, known for his versatile roles across film genres, is negotiating to play the lead villain in the film.

Powell will portray the desperate protagonist who joins a deadly game show to save his sick daughter, while Brolin is expected to take on the role of the show’s ruthless producer.

The novel, originally published in 1982, is set in a dystopian America and follows a man who must survive a deadly manhunt on live television, with contestants being hunted by professional killers. The longer he survives, the more money he can earn, but as he defies the game’s rules, he starts to expose its dark truths.

Directed by Edgar Wright, known for his stylish and kinetic filmmaking, the script is being co-written by Wright and Michael Bacall. The film also features Love Lies Bleeding star Katy O’Brian, who will play one of the contestants. The movie is set to begin shooting in London next year and is slated for release on November 21, 2025.

Brolin’s involvement in this high-profile project adds another impressive title to his filmography, which includes his Oscar-nominated performance in Milk (2008), his iconic role as Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and standout appearances in films like True Grit, Oldboy, and Deadpool 2.
