Julia Roberts is set to star in the leading role of the thriller ‘After The Hunt,’ directed by Luca Guadagnino, as reported by Variety.
The film’s storyline centers around Roberts’ character, a college professor caught at a crucial juncture of her personal and professional life when a leading student accuses a colleague of misconduct. As she deals with the repercussions of the accusation, she also faces the risk of a dark secret from her past being exposed.
While the film’s ensemble cast remains under wraps, the script is credited to Nora Garrett and has found a home at Amazon MGM Studios.
This announcement follows the success of Roberts’ recent film, ‘Leave the World Behind’, a Netflix thriller that saw significant viewership during the holiday season. Directed by Sam Esmail, the film, which also featured Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke, explores a post-apocalyptic narrative.
Director Luca Guadagnino, known for his Oscar-nominated work on ‘Call Me by Your Name’, is concurrently engaged in multiple projects. Among these is ‘Separate Rooms’, an adaptation of a novel by Italian author Pier Vittorio Tondelli, with Josh O’Connor in discussions for the lead role. This drama delves into the life of an Italian writer grappling with the loss of his boyfriend.
Guadagnino is also at the helm of ‘Challengers’, starring Zendaya and Mike Faist, scheduled for release on April 26, and ‘Queer’, a romantic drama set in Mexico featuring Daniel Craig. ‘Queer’ is anticipated to debut at the Venice Film Festival later this year, telling the story of an American expatriate who falls for a younger man.
