Kallis on Virat-Rohit return to T20Is: “There has to be a balance…”

Jacques Kallis, a famous South African all-rounder, talked about star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli coming back to the Indian T20I team more than a year before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June. He said that there needs to be a mix between youth and experience.

Since the start of the three-match series against Afghanistan, Virat and Rohit have finally played in a T20I again. They lost badly to England by ten wickets in the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, so this is their first game in a short version. Rohit played in the first game and was out for a duck. Virat, on the other hand, will come back to play the last two games after missing the first one in Mohali for personal reasons. “These two things should not be too different from each other. You should think about how you want to do in the event and your game plans. “There’s no doubt that experience is very important,” Kallis told ANI.

“It was a great series, a tough one,” Kallis said of the multi-format series between India and South Africa that ended not long ago. The Men in Blue won the T20I and ODI series, but tied the Test leg. There were two great teams that played their best. He was unhappy with the pitch used for the second Test in Cape Town, though. The Test ended in just two days, with 642 balls being played, making it the shortest Test ever. “I’m sorry things turned out that way. When you play on a good field, you want two good sides. Not great, but both teams had to play on that surface, and India did better than SA on a tough surface, Kallis said.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) rated the Newlands pitch in Cape Town as “unsatisfactory” on Monday, after the second Test between India and South Africa in which neither team scored many runs.
Kallis said, “It (the T20 WC) is a big tournament for a lot of guys.” The SA20 gives players a chance to make the national T20I team for the World Cup. They are stepping up and winning spots on the South African team. They are also learning from other international players.
Kallis said it was great that some T20 World Cup games are being held in the USA to get more people interested in the game. “It’s great that the game is getting bigger and that we’re going to more countries.” “I hope the United States gets better,” he said.

“It has been fun so far” when asked about his work as an assistant coach for Pretoria Capitals during the second season of the SA20. Before the first game, we had a good camp. It wasn’t a good day today (loss to Paarl Royals), but that’s just how things are. But we’ve had a good time, and I think that’s what the event is all about: having fun and hopefully having a good tournament.
