October 15, 2024: Kartik Aaryan has become one of Bollywood’s most reliable stars over the last decade, earning widespread popularity with his roles in comedy-dramas before transitioning into more varied performances. As he gears up for his upcoming project Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, co-starring Triptii Dimri, Vidya Balan, and Madhuri Dixit, Aaryan opened up about the hotly debated issue of rising actor fees in the film industry.
Speaking at an event with Pinkvilla during IFP, Aaryan explained how the economics of the film industry justify actor fees, stating, “Everything has a calculation. It’s a business module. If the returns from satellite, digital, and music rights work in favour of the producers, and audiences are showing up for an actor, then the fee is warranted.”

Aaryan addressed the ongoing debates around actor remuneration, noting that people often don’t fully understand the financial dynamics behind these decisions. “When the calculations don’t add up, it leads to dissatisfaction, and people get upset,” he remarked, adding, “I just hope my producers remain happy, and I don’t make them angry. I like to think my calculator works well.”
When asked if he ever accepted a project solely for financial reasons, Aaryan was honest. “Yes, I have,” he admitted with a laugh, explaining that early in his career, financial pressures led him to take on certain roles for quick income.
Reflecting on the box office failure of Shehzada, Aaryan shared insights into the challenges he faced during its production. “Before Shehzada even released, we were facing a crisis. They were kind enough to give me producer credits, though I didn’t want to take them. I invested in a few aspects of the film to try and save it.” He candidly added, “I just wanted to safeguard my film, selfishly. I always try to protect my movies in every way possible.”
