November 3, 2024: Despite parting ways in 2021 after a 16-year marriage, Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan have managed to maintain a strong professional and personal relationship. The two continue to co-parent their son, Azad, and even collaborated recently on Kiran’s film Laapataa Ladies, which has been chosen as India’s entry for the Oscars this year. In a candid interview with Kareena Kapoor on her show What Women Want, Kiran discussed her dynamic with Aamir, revealing what she loves, hates, and “barely tolerates” about her ex-husband.
Kiran described Aamir as a “100 percent guy” who is incredibly committed once he decides to support something. “Once he likes something, he is entirely behind it. He is a 100 percent guy. If he doesn’t like it, he’s really honest, but if he likes something, he’ll do his best for it,” she shared, praising his dedication and honesty. “He is literally one of the best people you can work with as a creative person.”
When asked what she dislikes, Kiran admitted that Aamir can take his time with decision-making, which can be frustrating. “He needs things to reach a point before he can decide, and that can be really frustrating because he has so many things going on,” she explained. The delay sometimes creates bottlenecks for those waiting on his input.
Finally, when asked what she “barely tolerates” about Aamir, Kiran said he has a habit of delivering lengthy lectures. “I mean, it’s not quite mansplaining, but it comes close,” she joked. This tendency, she noted with humor, is one of his quirks that requires a bit of patience.
With these lighthearted remarks, Kiran highlighted her ability to view her past relationship with humor and perspective, showcasing the unique friendship and respect she and Aamir have managed to preserve.
