Anupam Kher recently shared a news article about an interview with his wife, Kirron Kher, where she discussed her decision not to seek re-election as the BJP MP from Chandigarh. In her conversation with Times Now, Kirron clarified that she was not “dropped” as a candidate but had requested not to contest the upcoming elections.
Kirron Kher, who has been battling cancer, expressed her reasons during the interview: “Two months ago, I approached our party president JP Nadda and Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah, and asked to be excused from the electoral fray this time. My health had me stationed in Mumbai for extensive treatment over the past year. Thankfully, by God’s grace, I have fully recovered. However, my absence from Chandigarh during this critical period was significant, and I did not wish to hinder the party’s prospects due to my inability to be actively present on the ground.”
She also recounted the support she received from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her illness, “The Prime Minister was incredibly supportive when I fell ill. He reassured me not to worry about my duties in Parliament, where I’ve always been active and present.”
Looking forward, Kirron expressed her desire to continue her work in various capacities, both in entertainment and politics. “I’ve been engaged with ‘India’s Got Talent’ and look forward to serving my party in other roles moving forward,” she added.
Replacing her, Sanjay Tandon will be contesting from the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat for the BJP in this election cycle. Kirron reminisced about the encouragement she received from Amit Shah, praising her dedication as a party worker in Chandigarh.
