India’s top javelin thrower, Kishore Jena, has spoken out about the high expectations surrounding ‘Golden Boy’ Neeraj Chopra and the competition with Pakistan’s star javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, as they prepare for the Paris Olympics.
Jena will compete in Group A of the men’s javelin throw qualification round, while Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem are placed in Group B. The qualification round is set for Tuesday, and athletes need to achieve a mark of 84.00m to advance to the final. Jena expressed confidence and determination as he prepares for his Olympic debut.
“My preparation is very good, and we are receiving a lot of support. I will give my best tomorrow. It is my first time, so I will give 100 per cent,” Jena said.
All eyes are on Neeraj Chopra, the defending Olympic gold medalist, who has delivered a season-best throw of 88.36m. Jena highlighted the significant impact Chopra has had on Indian athletics and expressed his support for Chopra’s gold medal defense.
“You know how much Indian athletics has grown because of Neeraj bhai. Everyone has high hopes for him. It feels good that he is with us. He is staying with us. We wish him well,” Jena added.
The rivalry between India and Pakistan extends beyond cricket to the field of javelin throw. Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem have had several thrilling encounters over the years, and fans are eager for another dramatic showdown at the Olympics. Despite the competitive atmosphere, Jena emphasized the friendly nature of their interactions.
“No, it’s not like that. Since it’s the Olympics, many countries have come. We don’t think like that. There is nothing like that. It is friendly when we meet them. I also meet them. There is no such intention,” Jena remarked.
The anticipation builds as Neeraj Chopra aims to defend his title and Jena makes his Olympic debut, promising a memorable competition.
