January 27, 2025: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a strict notification ahead of the 2025 Class 10 and 12 board exams, scheduled to begin on February 15. Directed at school principals and heads, the notification emphasizes unwavering adherence to exam guidelines, reinforcing the importance of fair examination practices.

Focus on Ethical Exam Conduct
CBSE has explicitly warned schools and students about severe consequences for violating rules, highlighting its commitment to maintaining academic integrity.

In an official notice, CBSE stated:
“Conducting fair examinations is essential in the academic interest of students. Detailed ‘Unfair Means Rules’ have been framed by CBSE, and it is imperative that all students appearing for board exams are informed about these guidelines and ethical practices. Principals of CBSE-affiliated schools are urged to create awareness among students and ensure strict adherence to examination protocols.”

Key Guidelines for Schools and Students
CBSE outlined critical responsibilities for all stakeholders:
- Schools must inform students about the examination policies and associated penalties.
- Exam officials should be thoroughly briefed about their duties.
- Students are advised to avoid believing or spreading rumors that could disrupt exams.
- Parents should be made aware of exam policies and the consequences of non-compliance.
- On exam day, students should be reminded not to carry prohibited items into the examination center.
New Addition to ‘Unfair Means Act’
A notable update in the Unfair Means Act targets those spreading rumors that disrupt examinations. Offenders will face cancellation of their current and subsequent year’s exams across all subjects and will only be eligible to reappear for exams thereafter.
Further, under Category-3 of the updated rules, the following violations carry strict penalties:
- Possession or use of electronic devices functioning as communication tools inside the exam center.
- Any violation must be corroborated by reports from invigilators or inspection staff.

CBSE has reiterated the importance of these measures, urging all stakeholders to comply with the guidelines to ensure the integrity of the board exams.
