Daily consumption linked to better digestion, improved bowel movements, and stronger immune response

A UK-based surgeon has highlighted the powerful health benefits of adding kiwi to your daily diet, stating that regular consumption can significantly improve gut health, support bowel movements, and strengthen the immune system.

Dr Karan Rajan shared insights based on research showing that eating kiwis consistently for four weeks can deliver noticeable digestive benefits. According to him, the fruit may even outperform traditional fibre supplements in improving bowel function.

Citing a large randomised controlled trial involving 184 participants, Dr Rajan explained that individuals who consumed two kiwis daily experienced more regular and complete bowel movements, improved stool consistency, and reduced straining compared to those taking psyllium husk—a commonly used fibre supplement.

The benefits are largely attributed to the fruit’s high content of soluble, prebiotic fibre, which plays a key role in nourishing gut bacteria. Unlike psyllium, which mainly adds bulk, kiwis help improve the gut microbiome, contributing to overall digestive health and comfort.

Beyond digestion, kiwis are also rich in vitamin C, carotenoids, and polyphenols—nutrients known to support immune function. Regular intake has been linked to reduced severity and shorter duration of common illnesses such as colds and sore throats, particularly among older adults.

Experts suggest that incorporating nutrient-dense fruits like kiwi into a balanced diet can have long-term health benefits, especially when consumed consistently.
