Following heightened cross-border tensions and drone threats, the Civil Aviation Ministry has issued an advisory for early reporting at airports as 24 airfields face temporary closure.
New Delhi, May 8, 2025 –
As military tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, the Civil Aviation Ministry has issued a nationwide advisory urging airline passengers to arrive at least three hours prior to their scheduled departure times.

The advisory, posted by Air India on X, reads:
“In view of an order by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security on enhanced measures at airports, passengers across India are advised to arrive at their respective airports at least three hours prior to scheduled departure to ensure smooth check-in and boarding. Check-in closes 75 minutes before departure.”
Heightened Airport Security, Multiple Closures
In an unprecedented move, 24 airports across India have been temporarily shut, as border regions remain on high alert. The closures follow a sequence of events beginning with India’s Operation Sindoor — a retaliatory strike on terror camps in Pakistan and PoK after the Pahalgam massacre, which left 26 dead.

Pakistan’s failed response — including attempted missile and drone strikes on 15 Indian cities — has triggered enhanced military and civilian defence measures, especially in Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
Drone Threats Spread Across Borders
Indian air defence units have intercepted Pakistani drones in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and near Sir Creek in Gujarat, confirming an active threat level beyond the Kashmir valley.
Residents in Jammu and Srinagar remain under blackout conditions, with air raid sirens frequently sounding. Civilian movement has been restricted in some areas, and additional security drills are underway across vulnerable sectors.
