Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the tunnel on January 13, 2025. Following the inauguration, he will address a public gathering and meet the workers who braved extreme conditions to complete the project. Modi expressed his excitement about the visit on social media, stating, "The benefits for tourism and the local economy are immense."
Beyond its strategic importance for defense logistics and trade, the tunnel is expected to transform Sonamarg into a year-round tourism hub. Plans to further enhance connectivity with the Zojila Tunnel, set for completion by 2028, promise to shorten travel times between Srinagar and Leh, catalyzing economic growth and fostering socio-cultural integration across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
The Z-Morh Tunnel is being hailed as a significant step towards bolstering infrastructure and development in the Himalayan region, with the promise of transforming lives and livelihoods.
