Post-Holi Skin Care: Dermatologist Suggests Simple 4-Step Routine to Repair Your Skin

After the vibrant celebrations of Holi, many people are left dealing with colour stains, dryness, irritation, and rough skin. Dermatologists warn that regular Holi colours may contain artificial dyes, heavy metals, and industrial pigments that can damage the skin barrier.

According to dermatologist Dr Sonali Kohli from Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, the damage goes beyond temporary staining. These colours can trigger issues such as contact dermatitis, acne flare-ups, pigmentation, and increased skin sensitivity.

Experts recommend following a simple four-step skincare routine after Holi to repair and protect your skin.

1. Gentle Cleansing

The first and most important step is cleaning your skin carefully. Avoid harsh scrubbing, which can worsen redness and cause dark spots.

Instead, use a mild, sulfate-free cleanser to remove colours. Micellar water or cleansing balms can also help dissolve stubborn pigments without damaging the skin barrier.

2. Barrier Repair

Once the skin is clean, the next step is to restore its protective barrier. Use creams containing ingredients like ceramides, panthenol, and centella asiatica. These ingredients help soothe irritation, repair damaged skin, and lock in moisture.

3. Deep Hydration

After Holi, skin often becomes dry due to repeated washing and scrubbing. Apply a hydrating moisturizer or soothing lotion to restore lost moisture. Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, oats, and chamomile can calm inflammation and improve skin softness.

4. Sun Protection

The final step is applying sunscreen. After exposure to colours and chemicals, skin becomes more sensitive to sunlight. A broad-spectrum SPF helps prevent tanning, pigmentation, and further damage.

Why Post-Holi Skin Care Matters

Dermatologists say proper post-Holi care is essential to prevent long-term issues like uneven skin tone, breakouts, and irritation. Following a gentle skincare routine can help your skin heal faster and regain its natural glow after the festival.
