December 26, 2024: Swiggy, one of India’s leading food delivery platforms, has unveiled its 2024 year-end report, showcasing the culinary preferences of Indians across the country. Unsurprisingly, biryani remains the undisputed champion, with 83 million orders placed between January 1 and November 22, 2024.

  • Hyderabad led the biryani craze with 9.7 million orders, followed closely by Bengaluru with 7.7 million and Chennai with 4.6 million orders.
  • During Ramadan 2024, biryani saw a peak, with 6 million plates ordered.
  • A unique instance was recorded when a Kolkata user ordered biryani at 4:01 AM on January 1, 2024.

Biryani also emerged as a late-night favourite, ranking second for orders placed between 12 AM and 2 AM, right after chicken burgers.

Dinner emerged as the Bahubali of Mealtimes, clocking 215 million orders — nearly 29% higher than lunch orders on Swiggy.
