Commuters witnessed heavy rush and total confusion on the UER-II, this evening, a day after the Dwarka Expressway was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The packages (first section of Dwarka Expressway and one package of six-lane Urban Extension Road-II) that were supposed to be opened yesterday, have to the chagrin of commuters, been opened only in parts leading to commuters being stranded for over 45 minutes at one stretch after the next.
Lack of information regarding the sections opened, has further added to the commuters’ woes.
Whilst he flyover to the UER-II while travelling from Delhi to Dwarka expressway was thrown open to public, the underpass it leads to was barricaded and barred from use. This led to a massive jam on that stretch, and it continued for several kilometers. To add to the confusion, commuters started making U-turns and contra drove over the flyover, posing risks to others.
Further, up the stretch, the barricading on the flyover to Gurgaon was parted to allow traffic to pass, but the barricading at the exit was removed only partially, causing a lot of commotion.
On the Delhi Gurgaon border too, there was a lot of confusion as traffic was coming from all directions, and trucks were being driven on the wrong side of the road.
While the infrastructure and the Expressway itself is delightful and very state of the art, the management of the same, certainly needs a lot of work.
