November 3, 2024: A man has been arrested following the burglary of England Test captain Ben Stokes’ home while he was on tour in Pakistan.
The incident occurred on October 17, and Stokes later revealed on social media that his family was at home during the break-in, which involved “a number of masked men.” He described the emotional and mental toll the experience had on his wife, Clare, and their two young children.
Among the stolen items was Stokes’ OBE medal, awarded for his remarkable performances during England’s historic 2019 World Cup victory and the subsequent Ashes series. Stokes expressed his gratitude to the police for their support during this distressing time and made an appeal for information regarding the burglary, urging anyone with relevant details to contact Durham Constabulary.
In a heartfelt message on Instagram, he emphasized that while the material possessions were significant, his main concern was catching those responsible for the crime, particularly given that his family was at home during the incident. Stokes released photographs of some of the stolen items in hopes of aiding the investigation.
Durham Constabulary confirmed the ongoing investigation and reiterated their appeal for information related to the case. Meanwhile, during the Pakistan tour, England faced a 2-1 series defeat, with Stokes missing the first Test due to a hamstring injury.
