Mark Wood, the star England pacer, has been ruled out for the remainder of 2024 due to a right elbow injury. The England Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that scans revealed a bone stress injury in his elbow, which had been causing him increasing stiffness and discomfort during the Test series against the West Indies earlier in the summer.
Wood last played in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford, where he managed the elbow discomfort but also sustained a right thigh injury during the match. The ECB stated that he is recovering well from the thigh injury but will continue working closely with the medical team for rehabilitation.
As a result of these injuries, Wood will miss England’s upcoming Test series against Pakistan in October and New Zealand in December. He aims to return to full fitness by early 2025, in time for the white-ball tour of India and the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, both scheduled for February 2025.
Currently, England leads their Test series against Sri Lanka 2-0, having won the first match by five wickets and the second by 190 runs.
