Means A Lot, Can’t Express In Words: Skipper Najmul Shanto After Series Win Against Pakistan

After clean-sweeping Pakistan in the two-match Test series, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed his immense pride and joy over the team’s dominant performance. Bangladesh secured a 2-0 victory, marking a historic series win, especially considering the challenging conditions, including a rain-affected start to the second Test.

In the post-match presentation, Shanto said, “Means a lot, can’t express in words. Really happy. We were looking to win here and are very happy with the way everyone has done their job. Very impressive, the work ethic of our pacers was great and that’s why we got the result.” He also praised the collective effort of the team, particularly highlighting the performances of Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan, who provided crucial momentum in both Tests.

Looking ahead, Shanto noted that this win gives Bangladesh significant confidence as they prepare to face India in their next series. He emphasized the importance of experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan, who will be key in the upcoming challenges. Shanto also commended Mehidy Hasan Miraz for his impressive bowling, including a five-wicket haul, and expressed hope that the team’s positive culture and work ethic would continue.

This series win is particularly significant as it is Bangladesh’s first Test series victory of two matches or more against a team other than Zimbabwe or the West Indies. The victory also propelled Bangladesh to No. 4 in the ICC World Test Championship standings, with a points percentage of 45.83, surpassing England.

On the final day of the second Test, Bangladesh resumed play needing 143 more runs to win. Despite losing both openers in the morning session, a steady partnership between Shanto and Mominul Haque, followed by a composed finish from Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan, ensured Bangladesh crossed the finish line without further setbacks.
