Mithun Chakraborty to Receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award

In a landmark announcement, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty will be honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema. The award will be presented during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024.

The minister shared the news on his official X account, expressing, “Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema.”

Mithun Chakraborty, fondly known as Mithun Da, is no stranger to accolades, having recently been awarded the Padma Bhushan for his immense influence in the industry. Making his debut in 1976 with the critically acclaimed film ‘Mrigayaa’, Mithun won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of a Santhal rebel.

Mithun has also received two additional National Film Awards for his powerful performances in ‘Tahader Katha’ (1992) and ‘Swami Vivekananda’ (1998). His magnetic screen presence was further amplified by his contributions to the music world, with evergreen hits like ‘I Am a Disco Dancer,’ ‘Jimmy Jimmy,’ and ‘Super Dancer,’ cementing his status as a Bollywood icon.

Most recently, Mithun Chakraborty starred in Vivek Agnihotri’s critically acclaimed film ‘The Kashmir Files,’ showcasing his continued relevance and versatility in Indian cinema.
