In a post on social media on Sunday, Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam winner, said he was not going to play in the Australian Open 2024 because he hurt a muscle. The tennis player Nadal said that he hurt a small muscle during his loss in the Brisbane International quarterfinals. Nadal said that the “good news” is that his hip problem didn’t come back, and he is getting ready to go back to Spain to rest and heal.
“Hey everyone, I had a small muscle problem in my last game in Brisbane, which made me nervous. When I got to Melbourne, I was able to get an MRI, which showed that I have a small tear in a muscle. Thankfully, it’s not where I hurt myself, which is good news. At the moment, I’m not ready to play at the highest level of difficulty in 5 sets of matches. “I’m going to Spain to rest, see my doctor, and get some treatment,” Nadal wrote on X.
Nadal was still optimistic about the 2024 season. He said that his latest injury wasn’t “very bad news” and that he pulled from the Australian Open because he knew he wouldn’t be at his best. “I worked hard all year to get back to where I was, and I’ve always said that my goal is to be at my best in three months.” Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play in front of the amazing fans in Melbourne. However, this isn’t very bad news, and we’re all still optimistic about how the season is going. It was my dream to play tennis here in Australia, and I’ve had a few chances to do so, which made me feel great. Thanks to everyone who helped, and see you soon! “Rafa,” it said in more detail.
Nadal hurt himself in the second round of last year’s Australian Open and missed the rest of the 2023 season. After going back to Brisbane this week, the lefty beat Dominic Thiem and Jason Kubler in straight sets but lost to Jordan Thompson. Last Friday, Nadal lost to Jordan Thompson of Australia 7-5, 7-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International.
