US tech giant slashes 30,000 jobs globally, with India facing a major share and more layoffs expected

April 1, 2026: Oracle has reportedly laid off around 30,000 employees globally, with nearly 12,000 job cuts affecting its workforce in India. The company, headquartered in Austin, is also expected to carry out another round of layoffs within a month, according to reports citing affected employees, including those from its human resources department.

The layoffs are part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at streamlining operations. In internal communication, employees were informed that organisational changes had made several roles redundant. Oracle currently employs about 30,000 people in India and had approximately 1.62 lakh full-time employees worldwide as of May 2025, making this one of the largest workforce reductions in recent times.

As part of the severance package in India, the company has offered 15 days’ salary for each year of service, along with benefits such as leave encashment, gratuity (where applicable), notice period pay, and a two-month salary top-up. However, reports suggest that only those who voluntarily resign are eligible for the full package. The layoffs have also sparked concerns among employees, with some alleging issues related to work conditions and highlighting the broader impact on the tech job market.
