Twenty-eight police personnel suspended after skeletal remains of missing teen recovered, exposing serious lapses and alleged collusion.
April 12, 2026: In Jharkhand’s Bokaro district, authorities have suspended 28 police personnel after the skeletal remains of an 18-year-old woman, missing for eight months, were recovered near Chas College. According to Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh, the action was taken over “dereliction of duty” and alleged collusion with the accused, which severely damaged public trust in the police.
Investigations revealed that the accused, who had known the victim for nearly three years, allegedly murdered her after she pressured him to marry her. He reportedly stabbed her near an isolated area and concealed the body. The case was cracked using call detail records and technical evidence, leading to his confession and recovery of bone fragments, hair, clothes, and the murder weapon.
The case has also drawn scrutiny from the Jharkhand High Court, which questioned lapses in the investigation and delay in filing the FIR. The victim’s family had earlier raised concerns over police inaction, prompting judicial intervention. The incident has sparked outrage, highlighting serious concerns over accountability and policing standards.
