Two Pakistani nationals among escapees; police launch massive manhunt after attack

February 17, 2026: A major security breach was reported at the juvenile observation home in R. S. Pura on Monday evening around 5:05 PM, when three inmates escaped after allegedly attacking on-duty personnel. The escapees have been identified as two Pakistani nationals — Ehsan Anwar from Nankana Sahib and Mohammad Sanaullah from Muzaffarabad — along with a local resident, Karanjit Singh. An altercation reportedly broke out inside the facility before the trio assaulted police staff.

According to initial reports, the inmates allegedly opened fire with a pistol and used a sharp weapon during the attack, injuring at least two officers. CCTV footage captured the assault and their subsequent escape. After overpowering the guards, the three fled through the main gate and escaped on a motorcycle towards nearby fields, triggering panic within the premises.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and launched a massive search operation across suspected hideouts. Authorities have suspended six police personnel for alleged negligence as the investigation continues. The juvenile home, which houses 26 minors, is now under heightened security review while efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding inmates.
