6 Devotees Killed, 10 Injured in Road Accident Returning from Maha Kumbh 2025

A tragic accident in Ghazipur claimed six lives and left ten injured as devotees returning from Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh met with a fatal collision.

February 1, 2025: A tragic accident claimed the lives of six devotees returning from Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred this afternoon in Ghazipur when a trailer truck collided with the pickup truck carrying the devotees. Among the deceased were two men, two women, and two children. Ten others sustained injuries in the crash.

The accident happened on the Varanasi-Gorakhpur four-lane highway near Kusumhi Kalan village. The devotees had just concluded their pilgrimage and taken a holy dip at the sacred confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati at the Maha Kumbh.

Heartbreaking visuals from the scene show luggage scattered across the road and injured devotees lying near the wreckage. Emergency services quickly responded, with ambulances rushing the injured to a nearby hospital. Local police and administrative officials have also reached the site to manage the situation.

Recent Tragedies at Maha Kumbh

This devastating road accident comes just days after a deadly stampede claimed 30 lives at the Sangam area of the Maha Kumbh during ‘Mauni Amavasya,’ one of the most auspicious days on the Hindu calendar. Sixty others were injured in the rush as devotees jostled for space to take a holy dip.

Unprecedented Crowds at Maha Kumbh 2025

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13 and will continue until February 26, has seen an unprecedented influx of devotees. Over 20 crore people have already participated in the sacred event, taking the holy dip at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati.

This grand religious event brings together devotees from diverse regions, languages, and traditions, symbolizing the unity of India’s cultural and spiritual fabric.
