Opposition targets BJP government over Apeejay School controversy in Delhi

February 18, 2026: A fresh political storm has erupted in Delhi after the Aam Aadmi Party alleged that senior officials of Apeejay School were present at Education Minister Ashish Sood’s residence late Monday night with students’ admit cards. AAP leaders, including Saurabh Bharadwaj, questioned the nature of the minister’s association with the school management and accused the BJP-led Delhi government of shielding private institutions while Class 10 board students allegedly faced uncertainty over withheld admit cards amid a fee dispute.

AAP claimed that parents were told admit cards would only be issued after payment of increased fees, leaving families distressed just before examinations. Bharadwaj argued that withholding admit cards amounted to mental harassment under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and questioned why no FIR had been filed against the school. Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha further alleged that the school principal had referred to acting only on instructions from a “higher authority,” which AAP later claimed pointed to the Delhi government.

Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar said party leaders remained outside the school for hours until admit cards were eventually issued, alleging that students received them just hours before their exams. AAP has accused the Rekha Gupta-led government of protecting private schools, while the BJP has yet to issue a detailed response. The controversy has intensified the political face-off in the capital, with students and parents caught in the middle as board examinations get underway.
