"AAP is Spreading Lies": BJP Hits Back Amid Row Over Bhagat Singh and Ambedkar
New Delhi, February 26: A fresh political controversy has erupted in Delhi over the legacy of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of spreading falsehoods. BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay dismissed AAP’s allegations of disrespect, claiming that the Kejriwal-led party is using the issue to divert attention from corruption charges.
Upadhyay visited Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park, where he highlighted a broken statue of the freedom fighter, alleging that AAP had ignored it for years despite its claims of respecting Bhagat Singh.
“The statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh has been broken in this park for the last three years. AAP MLA Somnath Bharti has been in power for 10 years but never cared to fix it,” Upadhyay told ANI.
He further accused AAP of “pretending to care” about Bhagat Singh, stating that if the party was truly concerned, the park’s condition would have been different.
“AAP only pretends. If they had any real concern for Bhagat Singh, this park would not be in such a pathetic state. We believe in action, not politics,” Upadhyay said, instructing officials to repair the statue immediately.
Adding to the heated exchanges, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari accused AAP of distorting facts, stating that the party had “decided to spread lies” to mislead the public. He criticized AAP for placing Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s portrait alongside those of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh, calling it an insult to their legacy.
“When AAP was in power, they put Kejriwal’s portrait alongside Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh. This is nothing short of an insult,” Tiwari said.
Tiwari also slammed AAP for alleging that BJP was sidelining Ambedkar’s legacy by replacing his portraits with those of PM Narendra Modi in key government offices, including the Delhi CM’s office and the Assembly.
The latest political showdown comes amid rising tensions between BJP and AAP in Delhi, with both parties engaged in a war of words over corruption charges and alleged disrespect towards national icons.
While AAP continues to accuse BJP of sidelining Ambedkar, BJP leaders insist that AAP is engaging in opportunistic politics and ignoring real issues affecting Delhiites.
As the war of words intensifies, the battle for political supremacy in Delhi continues, with both parties using historical icons to rally support ahead of upcoming elections.
