Senior party leader Lucky Oberoi killed in daylight attack outside gurdwara, police launch manhunt
February 6, 2026: A senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Lucky Oberoi, was shot dead in a shocking daylight attack in Punjab’s Jalandhar on Sunday morning, sending shockwaves across the political spectrum. The incident took place in the Model Town area when Oberoi was stepping out of a gurdwara after offering prayers. As he was about to enter his car, two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at close range, firing nearly ten rounds.
Oberoi was critically injured in the attack and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The attackers fled the spot immediately after the shooting. Police teams reached the scene soon after, cordoned off the area, and began collecting evidence. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined to identify the assailants and trace their escape route.
Senior police officials said multiple angles, including political rivalry and personal enmity, are being investigated. The killing has triggered outrage among AAP leaders and supporters, who have demanded swift arrests and strict action against those responsible. Following the incident, security has been tightened in sensitive areas across Jalandhar to prevent any further unrest.
