OSD removed, professor suspended as state orders high-level probe into conversion and exploitation allegations
February 20, 2026: Action has begun in the ongoing controversy at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow over allegations of religious conversion and sexual exploitation. Syed Akhtar Abbas, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Vice Chancellor, has been removed from his post following protests by Hindu organisations and mounting accusations. In a related development, an Additional Professor from the Department of Pediatrics has been suspended in connection with a sexual harassment case linked to the broader controversy.
The issue sparked unrest on campus and drew political attention across Uttar Pradesh. Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak has ordered a high-level inquiry, constituting a two-member committee to investigate the alleged syndicate and examine possible financial irregularities within the institution.
Authorities are probing whether a larger network was operating inside the university and have indicated that further action will follow based on the committee’s findings. The investigation is currently underway.
