The party has demanded an explanation from Kashyap, who has defended the incident, saying it was “misused to malign” him.
May 26, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh has issued a notice to Amar Kishore Kashyap, the party’s Gonda district chief, over a viral video showing him in an “inappropriate” interaction with a woman at the local party office. The incident, recorded on April 12 and widely shared on social media, has led to disciplinary concerns within the party ranks.

Govind Narayan Shukla, the BJP’s state general secretary, issued the notice to Kashyap, citing that the video has tarnished the party’s image. “The video circulated on social media has brought to light conduct that negatively impacts the party’s reputation and falls under the category of indiscipline,” the notice reads. Kashyap has been asked to provide a written explanation within seven days or face strict disciplinary action.
The footage shows the woman, dressed in a salwar kameez, being led up the stairs by Kashyap, who is seen placing an arm around her shoulder and hugging her briefly. In his defence, Kashyap said the woman—an active party worker—had requested help because she was feeling unwell. “She said she wasn’t feeling well and wanted to rest. So I brought her to the party office,” Kashyap said.

He claimed that the brief physical contact was a gesture of support because the woman was feeling dizzy while climbing the stairs. “While climbing the stairs, she felt dizzy, and I held her hand to support her. She also held my hand. The footage is being misused to malign me,” he explained.

Kashyap said he was merely assisting a fellow party member in need. “If helping a worker is a crime, then we cannot say anything about it,” he added.
A BJP worker had termed the video “shameful” and filed a formal complaint with the party leadership, triggering the current inquiry.
