In a move to facilitate travel to Maha Kumbh 2025, the government has directed airlines to halve ticket prices from February 1, ensuring affordable access for millions of devotees.
February 1, 2025: Airfare for flights to Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh 2025 will be slashed by 50%, Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu announced on Thursday. The revised ticket prices will take effect from February 1, a measure aimed at making travel more accessible for devotees attending the holy gathering.

Airfare Rationalization
Earlier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had urged airlines to rationalize ticket prices for Prayagraj flights during a meeting on January 23. This was prompted by reports of a dramatic 21-fold increase in ticket prices from Delhi to Prayagraj during the ongoing event.

The Mahakumbh, which began on January 13 and concludes on February 26, has seen a record footfall of over 199.4 million devotees so far. However, the event has not been without challenges, as a stampede at one of the main bathing ghats earlier this week tragically claimed 30 lives.
Logistical Arrangements
To accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims, a temporary city spanning 4,000 hectares has been constructed along the riverbanks. This includes 150,000 tents and an equal number of toilets to ensure basic facilities for visitors.
The fare reduction is expected to significantly ease travel woes for pilgrims, especially amid reports of exorbitant ticket prices. Airlines have assured compliance with the government’s directive while ensuring operational viability.
