Akhilesh Backs Shankaracharya, Targets Govt
SP chief alleges disrespect to saints, administrative lapses, and threats to justice and social values
January 22, 2026: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav strongly backed Jyotirmath Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand, asserting that any disrespect towards saints would be firmly opposed. He accused the state government of negligence in recent incidents, including the death of a 27-year-old engineer, alleging that administrative failures and inaction led to the tragedy. Yadav also condemned the circulation of misleading videos targeting individuals and demanded accountability from authorities.
Criticising the transfer of Sambhal CJM Vibhanshu Sudhir, Yadav said such moves weaken the justice system and raise serious questions about judicial independence. He expressed confidence that the Supreme Court and the High Court would take note of the issue, adding that arbitrary administrative decisions erode public trust and undermine the rule of law.
Expanding his criticism, the former chief minister raised concerns over the growing influence of capitalist interests on media channels, claiming this threatens social welfare and the spread of socialist and Ambedkarite ideals. Questioning the government’s priorities, Yadav stressed the need to protect lives—of common citizens, farmers, and the poor alike—and called for responsible governance to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
