Alka Lamba Mocks AAP After Delhi Poll Defeat, Calls Party a ‘Loser’

Congress leader taunts Kejriwal, challenges him to retain AAP MLAs amid BJP’s sweeping victory

New Delhi, February 9: Congress leader Alka Lamba took a sharp dig at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday, calling it the “biggest loser” after its crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections.

Speaking to media, Lamba asserted that while the Congress might not have won any seats, AAP suffered the biggest setback as it lost power and credibility.

“The biggest loser is AAP… they lost the polls, they lost everything. We have lost nothing. It is clear that Congress has performed better than before, and our vote percentage has increased,” Lamba remarked.

Lamba Challenges Kejriwal to Hold Party Together

Lamba further challenged AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, claiming he has lost control over his party and predicting defections among his MLAs.

“I challenge him to save his 22 MLAs. He has no hold on his party anymore. Now, let’s see how he saves Punjab… I don’t think his blackmailing will work anymore,” she said.

Congress’ Abhishek Dutt Blames Kejriwal’s ‘Arrogance’ for AAP’s Defeat

Meanwhile, Congress leader Abhishek Dutt also took a swipe at AAP, attributing its defeat to Kejriwal’s failure and arrogance.

“I hope that with the mandate Delhi has given BJP, they will fulfil all their promises. Arvind Kejriwal lost this election because of his failure and arrogance. I remember his tweet saying he would contest the elections alone in Delhi,” Dutt told ANI.

Atishi Resigns as Delhi Chief Minister

Following AAP’s poor electoral performance, Atishi resigned from her post as Delhi Chief Minister on Sunday. She submitted her resignation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at the Raj Niwas.

Atishi, who was elevated to the CM post in September 2024 after Kejriwal stepped down, was the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

BJP Returns to Power in Delhi After 27 Years

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a historic mandate, winning 48 seats and marking its return to power in the national capital after nearly three decades.

AAP won 22 seats, while the Congress failed to open its account for the third consecutive election.

Despite AAP’s overall defeat, Atishi managed to retain the Kalkaji seat, securing victory over BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,521 votes.

The political landscape of Delhi has now shifted dramatically, with BJP set to form the new government while AAP faces internal challenges and a leadership crisis.
