December 13, 2024: Karnataka Police has intensified its investigation into the shocking Bengaluru techie suicide case by issuing summons to the wife of deceased techie Atul Subhash and her family members. They have been directed to appear at Marathahalli Police Station in Bengaluru within three days.

A four-member team from the Bengaluru Police, including a woman officer, traveled to Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh—where Atul’s wife Nikita Singhania and her family reside—to serve the notice. The notice, also addressed to her mother Nisha Singhania, brother Anurag Singhania, and uncle Sushil Singhania, states:
“There are reasonable grounds to interrogate you to ascertain the facts and circumstances. You are directed to appear before the investigating officer at Bengaluru within 3 days.”

The investigation follows a complaint filed by Atul’s brother, Bikas Kumar, who alleged that Atul faced years of harassment at the hands of his wife and her family. Atul, a software engineer originally from Bihar, left behind a 24-page suicide note detailing his ordeal.

Allegations and Suicide Note Details

Atul’s note accuses his wife and her family of emotional harassment and filing multiple false cases against him after their marriage in 2019 and subsequent divorce. He also claimed they demanded ₹3 crore to settle the disputes.

The complaint further alleges that Atul’s wife filed nine cases against him, including charges of murder, sexual misconduct, dowry harassment, domestic violence, and financial harassment. Atul accused a family court judge in Jaunpur of corruption and ignoring his side of the story. He also claimed that court officials accepted bribes openly.

Atul’s note, which carried the words “Justice is Due” on every page, included a video message where he detailed his suffering and requested his family not to immerse his ashes until justice was served. He asked for his parents to gain custody of his four-year-old son, who he alleged was kept away from him.

Police Findings and Ongoing Investigation

Atul was found dead on Monday in his Bengaluru flat, which was locked from the inside. Upon breaking in, police discovered Atul hanging and recovered the 24-page note. A video recorded by him has also surfaced as evidence.

Bikas Kumar, Atul’s brother, expressed the family’s grief and determination to seek justice. Referring to Atul’s heartbreaking note, Bikas revealed:
“In his note, Atul mentioned, ‘If I win against the system, immerse my ashes in the Ganga; if not, throw them into the gutter outside the court.’”

The case has triggered widespread discussions about mental health, familial disputes, and judicial accountability. Police are expected to question the accused family members and investigate the allegations made against court officials.
