Artificial Colours in Green Peas Exposed: Viral Video Sparks Social Media Frenzy

A social media video exposing the use of artificial colours in green peas manufacturing sparks millions of views and witty commentary on food safety in India.

February 6, 2025: A viral video has revealed the surprising truth about salted green peas in India, shedding light on their manufacturing process and sparking widespread reactions on social media. The video, originally uploaded by influencer Saloni Bothra, shows that yellow peas are coated with artificial colours, sun-dried, and deep-fried before being packaged as salted green peas.

The voiceover in the video humorously states, “My whole life was a lie. I thought they fried green peas, but they actually use artificial colours on yellow peas.” After the colouring process, the peas are fried for 10 minutes, excess oil is removed using a machine, and the peas are mixed with salt before packaging.

Social Media Reactions

The comment sections on both Instagram and Twitter have been flooded with witty and critical remarks.

  • “Chalo, kam se kam extra oil to nikala (At least they’re removing the extra oil),” quipped one user.
  • “Thanks for ruining my chakhna,” joked another.
  • “I don’t understand how I am still alive,” one Instagram user wrote.
  • “Cleanliness dekh ke aankhon mein pani aa gaya (I’m in tears seeing the cleanliness),” commented another sarcastically.
  • “Food regulation is a joke in India; everything has artificial carcinogenic colours,” remarked one concerned user.

On Twitter, the discourse was equally sharp:

  • “India is a land of laws, but no one enforces them,” commented a user.
  • “Fake paneer, fake peas, fake milk – it needs to stop,” wrote another.

While the humor provided comic relief, the overarching concern remained clear: the need for stricter food safety regulations in India.
