Arvind Kejriwal Declares ₹1.7 Crore Assets, Faces 14 Cases Ahead of Delhi Polls

“Kejriwal’s affidavit reveals no car, increased liabilities, and a tough electoral battle in New Delhi constituency.”

January 16, 2025: Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Chief Minister of Delhi, has disclosed assets worth ₹1.7 crore in his poll affidavit. Notably, he owns no personal car or house, while his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, holds assets worth ₹1.5 crore.

Key Financial Details from the Affidavit

  • Movable Assets:
    • Kejriwal: ₹3.46 lakh (including ₹40,000 cash on hand)
    • Sunita: ₹1 crore (including ₹32,000 cash on hand)
  • Immovable Assets:
    • Kejriwal: ₹1.7 crore
    • Sunita: ₹1.5 crore (including a house in Gurugram)
  • Jewelry: Sunita owns jewelry worth ₹25.9 lakh, including 320 grams of gold.
  • No Liabilities: Both Kejriwal and Sunita declared they have no liabilities.
  • 2023-24 Income:
    • Kejriwal: ₹7,21,530 (legislative salary)
    • Sunita: ₹14,10,740 (pension)

Kejriwal’s financial disclosures reflect a significant reduction in movable assets compared to his 2020 affidavit, where his assets were valued at ₹9.95 lakh, while Sunita’s were ₹57 lakh.

Criminal Cases and Election Battle

Kejriwal revealed 14 pending criminal cases in his affidavit, including one related to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Amethi and others tied to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy. This is an increase from the 13 cases mentioned in his 2020 affidavit.

The New Delhi constituency, where Kejriwal is seeking re-election, is shaping up to be a high-profile battle. His challengers include:

  • Parvesh Verma (BJP), son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma.
  • Sandeep Dikshit (Congress), son of late Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit.

While Verma and Kejriwal have already filed their nominations, Dikshit is expected to file his papers soon.
