The voice that defined Indian music for over seven decades fell silent as legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle was laid to rest with full state honours at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park crematorium today. The veteran icon passed away on April 12 at the age of 92 due to multiple-organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital.

A Grand Farewell in Mumbai

The singer’s mortal remains, draped in the national tricolour, were taken from her Lower Parel residence to the crematorium in Dadar. The final rites were performed according to Hindu rituals by her son. In a heart-wrenching moment caught on camera, her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, was seen breaking down inconsolably during the ceremony, surrounded by family and close friends.
