April 8, 2026: With the Assam Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, Jorhat has completed all preparations to ensure a smooth, free and peaceful voting process. Polling and presiding officers have been dispatched to their designated stations with all necessary materials. The district has 886 polling booths across four constituencies—Jorhat, Titabor, Mariani and Teok—with over 7.1 lakh voters expected to take part. Officials confirmed that mock polls will begin at 5:30 a.m., followed by voting from 7:00 a.m.
To make the process inclusive, the Election Commission of India has expanded home voting facilities for elderly and specially-abled voters, with nearly 400 people already casting their ballots. Prominent figures, including Gaurav Gogoi, are expected to vote in the district. Authorities have also conducted extensive voter awareness campaigns under SVEEP to encourage higher participation, along with door-to-door verification to update electoral rolls.
Security has been tightened with Central Armed Police Forces deployed across all polling stations, and additional personnel stationed at 22 identified critical booths. Officials stated that no booth has been marked as vulnerable. With strong logistical planning, enhanced security, and active voter outreach, Jorhat is set for a crucial day of polling as part of the larger electoral exercise across Assam.
