January 12, 2025: The start of the new year brings festivities and holidays across India, including Lohri and Makar Sankranti, celebrated on January 13 and 14, 2025, respectively. However, bank holiday observances for these festivals vary across states. Here’s what you need to know.

While Lohri is not marked as a bank holiday, Makar Sankranti is recognized as a holiday in select states. Banks will remain closed on January 14 in locations including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad (both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Itanagar, Kanpur, and Lucknow for Makar Sankranti, Uttarayana Punyakala, Pongal, Maghe Sankranti, Magh Bihu, and the Birthday of Hazarat Ali.
